DIN EN 61000-5-5 VDE 0847-5-5:1997-02

This document contains the German version of the European standard EN 61000-5-5:1996 and is identical with the international standards IEC 1000-5-5:1996. It defines how protective devices for conducted distrubances proposed for HEMP (high-altitude nuclear-electromagnetic pulse) protection shall be specified. It covers protective devices currently being used for protection against induced HEMP transients on signal and low-voltage power lines (nominal voltage to 1 KV a.c.). The general information which is contained in this standard can also be applied to high voltages lines. However, in these cases, the additional requirements for the protection levels of existing lightning arresters (especially gepless MO-arresters) are under consideration. The specification of protective divices deal with gas dischage tubes, metal oxide*varistors, expulsion-type arresters, non-linear resistor type arresters, avalanche-junction transient voltage suppressors, filters protection circuits, safety arresters and coaxial r.f.-circuit protectors.
