This standard contains the German version of the European standard EN 61643-321 and is identical with the International standard IEC 61643-321. It contains requirements for avalanche breakdown diodes (ABD) which are used for the design and the construction of surge protective devices connected to low-voltage supply systems, telecommunications and signalling networks. In this standard the basic function is described and specifications concerned the service conditions and standard test methods for the electrical characteristics of the ABD are given. Furthermore the test criteria concerning fault and failure modes are specified.
