In accordance with the Workplaces Ordinance this guideline applies to workplaces or workrooms in buildings such as: commercial and industrial buildings office and administration buildings workshops educational institutes, schools, kindergartens (unless covered by VDI 6000 Part 6) This guideline does not apply to work stations in the open air, for example open-air work stations on company premises, work stations in fields, in woods or other open areas, forming part of a farming or forestry business, construction sites open-air sales booths associated with retail stores, watercraft and floating installations on inland waters. It applies to the following rooms or locations: Washrooms, restrooms, washing facilities in workrooms, first-aid rooms, canteens, kitchenettes, changing rooms, break rooms. The planning, dimensioning and fitting-out of sanitary facilities in workplaces should be guided in particular by the needs of the people working there. The guideline is intended to serve as a resource assisting in planning, construction and operation, independently of all ordinances or regulations. The following aspects should be given particular attention in planning and design: Minimum number of sanitary fixtures, adequately dimensioned movement and traffic areas, hygiene and unimpeded cleaning, functionally reliable, practical and visually appealing facilities, safety requirements, robust equipment protected against theft, water and energy savings, economically efficient installations. Additional comments about planning, designing and installing sanitary facilities with disabled and wheelchair access in compliance with DIN 18024 and DIN 18025 will also be found in this guideline.
