The Guideline determines maximum immission concentrations for hydrogen fluoride to protect vegetation. The different functions of vegetation as an agricultural, horticultural or forestry commodity were taken into consideration for determining and evaluating effects caused by hydrogen fluoride. In addition to visible signs of injury, effects on crop growth, yield and quality of plant products were also used as response criteria. In total some 1500 dose-response data from approx. 140 references were evaluated. A detailed list with information on sensitivity of plant species documented in literature as well on abundance and cultivation in Central Europe is available on a CD in the Annex. Compliance with the maximum immission values will generally ensure protection of the vegetation so that its economic functions are not impaired by exposure to hydrogen fluoride as an individual component.
