By means of biological measuring techniques (bioindication), accumulation of air pollutants in plants can be determined quantitatively as immission-induced effects. In order to be able to classify and assess the substance content in standardised plant cultures, assessment values are consulted. The standard presents a suitable statistical method with which robust upper limits of substance contents in standardised grass cultures characteristic for background situations can be generated. The substance contents determined in this way reflect the operation-induced base contents including their fluctuation. They are called 'Orientation values for maximum background level' (OmH). The OmH allow for assessing whether an immission-induced effect in excess of the background contamination is on hand. In addition, supraregional OmH for selected inorganic air pollutants are listed in the standard.
